10/28/2008: EBAL Center Meet #2 and Mt. SAC

Saturday concluded a great week of racing that included the second EBAL Center Meet and the Mt. SAC Invitational. A total of 5 medals were brought home by Foothill athletes from Walnut, including a first place finish by sophomore Jennifer Goldstein and top fifteen finishes to Matt Yankowski (Varsity Boys), Tom Heppner and Ryan DeJoy (Sophomore Boys) and Mary Chambers (Sophomore Girls). Each race had around 130-140 runners, with nearly 20,000 runners competing over the two day invite! 10/15/2008: Frosh/Soph Teams Place 2nd at Castro Valley Invite

The Frosh/Soph Boys and Girls had outstanding races last Saturday at the Castro Valley Invitational at Canyon Middle School in Castro Valley. Both teams finished in 2nd place overall. The Foothill girls were led by Jennifer Goldstein who won the 2.1 mile race with a time of 14:05! The team was also made up of Mary Chambers (15:27), Brittany Jones (15:59), Mollie Richardson (16:23), Stephanie Munro (16:27), Bella Tsay (17:06), and Iris Chang (17:07). The Frosh/Soph boys ran the same course and was led by Freshman Bridger Giglio in 8th place with a time of 13:26. Dylan Freitas followed closed behind finishing 11th overall clocking in at 13:33. Other team members were Alec Kron (14:03), Ken Ohhashi (14:13), Daniel See (14:23), Kyle Zuniga (14:39), and Jacob Saldinger (14:55). The JV and Varsity Boys teams were tagged for the “magic 7”. The JV Boys finished 7th overall out of 17 teams and the Varsity Boys raced in the challenging 3 mile course finishing 7th overall out of 35 teams. Complete Cross Country Results Here . The teams are looking to improve their times and preparing for the 2nd EBAL Meet on Oct. 22.

10/9/2008: EBAL Center Meet #1

The Foothill Cross Country runners were back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 8th, for the first EBAL Center Meet. The teams attacked the hilly terrain at Oak Hill Park in Danville with the Varsity boys and girls competing in the 3-mile course while the Junior Varsity teams running the 2-mile course. It was a tight race for the Varsity boys with Senior Matt Yankowski leading the way for the Falcons finishing 5th overall with a time of 16:58.22. Senior Jim Heppner closed in at the last 200 meters posting a mark of 17:22.27 and 16th overall. Jennifer Goldstein was impressive in the Varsity girls race clocking in at 20:20:20 and 10th overall. Sophomore Dylan Freitas showed a lot of promise in the Junior Varsity race finishing 27th overall with a time of 12:56.44. Congratulations to all the runners! Next up is the Castro Valley Invitational this Saturday, Oct. 11th, where we expect to see some standout finishes from the Foothill runners.

9/27/2008: Stanford Invitational

Foothill’s cross country runners traveled to Palo Alto on Saturday to compete at the Stanford Invitational. The winding 3-mile course around the Stanford Golf Course on a hot afternoon proved challenging for most of the runners. On the Varsity Boys team, Senior Matt Yankowski once again led the Falcons as he came across the finish line in 16:36 and 8th overall.

9/15/2008: Ed Sias Invitational

Congratulations to all of the athletes who competed this past weekend at the Ed Sias Invitational in Martinez! Cool weather helped with some fast times on the 2-mile course. Top finishers from Foothill in each of the races included Senior Matt Yankowski (Varsity Boys) with a time of 10:36.4 and 7th overall, and Sophomore Jennifer Goldstein (Varsity Girls) with a time of 12:58.5 and 13th overall.
