Freshman Baseball beats Clayton Valley 5 - 4 in the bottom of the 7th

 Falcons stage a comeback in the bottom of the 7th inning with a walk off double by Grant Soyka to win the 2nd game in the double header against Clayton Valley.
The Falcons lost their season opener to Clayton Valley. They got off to a great start, leading CV by 5 runs after 2 innings. This was fueled by great pitching from starting pitcher Grant Soyka who struck out 3 batters in the first 2 innings, and by some outstanding hitting by Raymond Hudson with a 2 RBI triple in the 1st, and Cody Shields with a 2 RBI double in the 2nd. In the 3rd inning, the Clayton Valley bats woke up, resulting in a 7 hit, 7 run inning, giving them the lead. The Falcons continued to hit the ball, but were unable to post any more runs. Matt Shackley pitched the last two innings, and shut down the CV hitting streak…. holding them to just one hit and no runs in the 6th and 7th innings.

• Grant Soyka: 2 for 2 with a Walk
• Raymond Hudson: 1 for 2 with a Walk and 2 RBIs

• Eric Crispell: 0 for 2 with a SAC fly and 1 RBI
• Mark Slifer: 1 for 1
• Trevor Robb: 1 for 3
After a short 30 minute break, the Falcons took the field for game #2 ready to get their first W of the season. Starting pitcher Eric Crispell went 5 innings, striking out 3 batters and holding CV to just 4 runs. Jimmy Ferrara was the closer, striking out the first two batters he faced, and holding CV to 2 hits and no runs in the 6th and 7th innings. The Falcon offense was slow but steady with just one run posted in each of the 2nd, 5th and 6th innings, and culminating with Grant Soyka’s walk off double in the bottom of the 7th.
