Alumni News: '05 FHS Grad Crawford Finishes Strong on the Giant's Farm

DURHAM, N.C. - Former UCLA shortstop Brandon Crawford has been rated the ninth-best prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization by Baseball America, as announced this week by the national publication. Crawford batted .282 with 10 homers and 48 RBI in his first full professional season.

Crawford recently completed his fall playing in the prestigious Arizona Fall League for the Scottsdale Scorpions. The native of Pleasanton, Calif., batted .312 in 20 games for Scottsdale, recording two homers, 10 RBI and 18 runs. A three-year starting shortstop at UCLA, Crawford posted a .396 on-base percentage in the fall league.

Crawford batted .371 in 25 games for the San Jose Giants (high-A) at the start of the 2009 season. Following a mid-season promotion, he batted .250 with four home runs, 24 doubles, 28 RBI and 34 runs in 94 games for the Connecticut Defenders (double-A, Eastern League). He was a fourth-round selection by San Francisco in the 2008 MLB Draft.

In three seasons at UCLA (2006-08), Crawford started all 158 games. The left-handed hitting shortstop concluded his collegiate career with a .319 batting average, 20 homers, 13 triples, 44 doubles, 136 RBI and 145 runs.
